Windmills of the future

Development of wind energy is expanding rapidly for the reason that it answers to the values of Quebec's population and thus has the political support of the Quebec government.   Our homes are consuming more energy than before because they are bigger and equipped with more devices and appliances that have become essential and which did not even exist a few years ago

The population desires and needs energy.   Despite the efficiency of our hydroelectric dams, Hydro-Quebec and TCI are aware that the resources necessary for their construction are limited at both the environmental and territorial levels.   Wind turbines offer a compromise for the development of a clean and long lasting alternative, suited for our always growing needs, personal and collective.

Many more wind turbine parks will be built in the next few years in places that will be determined according to their wind potential and the willingness of landowners to accept them on their respective lands. Let us not forget that the furthest the energy is produced from where it is to be used, the more costly it will be because of its transport on hundreds and even thousands of kilometres.

All of us at TCI are very enthusiastic and proud to be an integral part of this great societal project. It will go down in the history of our evolution, at the very moment when mankind becomes aware that its survival depends on the health of our Planet.

Our adventure started in 1998 when TCI installed the electrical network for the very first wind turbine park in Quebec, namely Nordais at Cap-Chat. Since then, we participated in the construction of every wind turbine park in Quebec, without exception. Supported by this success, the creation of the Wind Energy division was only logical in our evolution since all the expertise required for the construction of a wind turbine park can be found amongst other fields of activities of TCI:

  • Electric networks
The construction and the installation of underground electric network which allows for   the transmission of energy generated by the wind turbines to the electric substation and its transformer, and to Hydro-Quebec's energy distribution network, where energy is then distributed throughout the province.
  • Civil work
Thanks to our expertise, we build bases for wind turbines, the electric substations and the transformers.   Our highly qualified workforce comprised of engineers and technicians are equipped with the finest technology in heavy equipment, to excavate, build and secure the roads in the wind turbine parks. The moving of cranes whose weight varies between 450 and 800 tons from one wind turbine to another requires roads 10 metres wide.
  • Telecommunications
Our specialists in this division can install all the telecommunication equipment necessary to render the wind energy parks functional.   In fact, a wind turbine park needs vast resources in telecommunications such as; security network with surveillance cameras, remote monitor and control system, alarm system, communication system and telephone network.

TCI's excellence and the profitability of our customers

The mobilization of almost 250 of our employees enables TCI to be completely self-sufficient and responsible in order to accomplish a wind energy project.   The "Régie de l'énergie" and an independent firm of accountants supervise the awarding of contracts through the RFP process, this procedure helps to obtain the best possible service offer at the best price.   This competition is essential to serve the Public's best interest as many hundreds of millions of dollars are usually involved. This is where our unique expertise comes into play; it allows us to maximize our efficiency at the same time the profitability and the success of our customers - developers, which distinguishes us from our competitors. We are proud to participate actively to the emerging wind energy industry.

Service requests from abroad are a testimonial that our exceptional service has crossed borders.   The potential of wind energy is worldwide, whether the wind turbine is installed in the ocean or on top of a mountain.

Prime quality wind parks carry the TCI signature. We are a unique and ideal partner, able to ensure the successful completion of your turnkey projects.

Using the wind to produce energy is the principle of the wind energy technology. To capture the energy from the wind and then to transform it into electric energy adapted to the receiving distribution network; this is the answer to the energy and environmental issues of our generation.   At TCI, we take the preservation of our environment at heart and will do our outmost to ensure that our expertise in energy, civil work and telecommunications benefits the development of efficient and profitable wind turbine parks.

Thanks to the great synergy between our various divisions at TCI, we have the expertise, the equipment and the resources to offer any developer of wind turbine parks a « turn-key » solution. Developers can count on TCI as a trustworthy, efficient, dynamic and most devoted partner to accomplish the specific tasks assigned to it in a multi contractor project due to our great flexibility as subcontractor and partner.

Up to now, TCI is proud of its participation in every wind turbine projects in Quebec.
