At the beginning, in 1978, when Mr. Claude Gauthier and other partners founded Transelec it solely specialized in the construction of power transmission lines. Throughout the years, Transelec also became specialist in construction and expanded its expertise in various fields of activities complementary to the energy sector. These activities are now regrouped within our Energy division and cover all work related to the production, the transport and distribution of energy. Our unique position as leaders in this industry allows us to carry out projects in hydroelectric power stations, wind turbine parks, transformation substations and electric power lines intended for transport and distribution of energy.
Our Energy division has the capacity to complete all phases of the project. TCI's expertise combined with our partners' enable us to offer a complete service solution encompassing engineering, procurement, project management, construction and start up. We have completed and are still carrying out numerous renovation and/or new construction projects for Hydro-Quebec in almost every sector of activity. We are often called upon to stabilize or upgrade networks in existing construction sites. Some of the projects we have accomplished include Grand-Mère and Peribonka power stations, numerous transport power lines at Baie James and throughout the province, many power substations, like Monteregie Substation, and we play a major role in wind turbine parks belonging to our private customers.

TCI Energy division's experienced personnel and high technology equipment can complete every one of the four phases of the energy cycle which are; the production by the hydroelectric power stations and wind turbines, the transport using electricity networks towards the substations and power stations where the energy is then transformed before being distributed in homes on a provincial scale.
A world premiere...
To prevent another crisis due to freezing rain
Following the Ice Storm in 1998, Hydro-Quebec explored ways to strengthen its network and add innovative solutions to prevent a similar catastrophe. Hydro-Quebec received many proposals for solutions from all corners of the planet. Areva T&D was awarded the mandate to develop a de-icing process. The basic concept of the de-icer is to send a continuous current to the transport conductors; this continuous current melts the ice. Areva T&D retained the services of TCI to assist in the construction phase. We are pleased to have contributed to this unique project.

HUMAN RESOURCES
The Energy division can rely upon a dynamic team of ten project managers, eight quality assurance officers, thirty foremen, and sixty regular employees as well as sixty contractual employees. When we have contracts in remote areas, we combine TCI's expertise to that of the local people. In this way we contribute to the economic development of the areas where the work is completed.
On a typical job site, you will find a project manager, a foreman-electrician who supervises the electricians, a foreman for electrical equipment supervising the linemen, the crane operators, and finally, a foreman for civil work supervising the team of carpenters, specialized labourers, steel workers and a site office clerk.
The diversity of services offered by TCI allows the Energy division to work in conjunction with the Telecommunication and Civil work divisions. TCI Divisions can easily add their expertise to our range of products in order to better serve our customers. This close collaboration between divisions allows us to maximize the level of efficiency of our work and widen our network of suppliers.

TCI is proud of its expertise in the energy sector. As years have gone by, we have positioned ourselves as the leader in the industry when it comes to completing « turn-key » projects in the energy sector. Our organization is highly qualified to build and install high and medium power transmission lines as well as to modify and maintain any distribution networks both aerial and underground. Throughout the years, we assembled and built many thousands of kilometres of power lines of 120 kV, 220 kV, 315 kV, 345 kV, 450 kV, 735 kV or 750 kV. Our engineers and technicians have the expertise and equipment necessary to perform all types of electrical work with precision, speed and efficiency, meeting and even superseding the highest standards of the industry.
TCI is also recognized for the construction and modification of power substations as well as all the work required inside those installations.
